Learning Support Assistant - PMLD - Faringdon, Oxfordshire
Do you have a passion for helping vulnerable young people with complex needs and empowering them to overcome barriers to learning?
Fresh Start in Education are looking for an experienced and person-centred Education Specialist* with a background in PMLD to work with a young man in his late teens with autism, hearing impairment and sensory needs.
*Education Specialist is the term we use for all our tutors.
In order to be considered to work with this particular student, it is an occupational requirement to be a male tutor. These protected characteristics are essential and relates directly to the safeguarding of the young person and individuals working with them. Knowledge of Makaton is also a requirement for this role.
Based in Faringdon, Oxfordshire, this role involves planning and delivering engagement activities, as well as providing communication, emotional and behavioural support. You will be working alongside other professionals who will providing different aspects of his care.
What is required for this role?
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience supporting young people with complex needs
- Experience supporting young people with PMLD including SLD, ASD, GDD, challenging behaviours and those with communication difficulties
- Confidence using BSL or Makaton
- Resilience, creativity and an ability to engage and maintain safe and professional relationships with vulnerable students and their carers/family members
- A good command of English and excellent communication and organisational skills

Type of Contract
- Bank Staff worker – providing short-term provisions when they arise (paid via PAYE)
- You will need to be available for a minimum of two consistent sessions per week (we recommend a minimum of two days' availability)
- Sessions take place between Monday – Friday, 9am – 4pm and sessions are between 3-5 hours in length
